AFK Today 1/27/2024

I hope your weekends are as awesome as all the new games announcements and releases. This week on AFK Today, we’re discussing the mass layoffs over at Microsoft and Blizzard. Onto better news, we’ve got the scoop on Enshrouded’s release. Has this game been overshadowed by the ever so popular survival crafting game, Palworld? Read more to find out. Lastly, we’re excited about Smite 2 and its developer updates so catch up below.

Mass Layoffs at Microsoft and Blizzard

Following the Activision Blizzard merger, Microsoft has decided to get rid of nearly 2,000 workers from its gaming division. This includes Xbox and Activision departments, which should lead to quite the shakeup in the development of many games. Blizzard’s upcoming game Odyssey was completely canceled after 6 years of development, which should be an indicator for how much is being changed. Who knows if this is the right move, but Activision Blizzard definitely needs some major modifications after their recent years of destroying trust with the community.

Enshrouded Releases to Great Success

Although overshadowed by Palworld’s quick rise to fame, people have been noticing the quality of Enshrouded as a competitor. Already reaching a 90,000 player count, this survival crafting adventure game seems to promise big goals after its early access was released January 24th. Streamers have been giving it glowing reviews and retains a 8-9 out of 10 on Steam already. With 2 hotfixes fixing some potential issues, it looks like the developers are going to stick with this for the long run.

Smite 2 Developer Updates

It has been roughly two weeks since the Smite 2 reveal trailer dropped and the recent updates to the game have us even more excited. We know from the initial announcement, developers have been working on an upgraded game engine, enhanced graphics and better gameplay. The reveal trailer only gave us a glimpse of what the final product might look like but with the release of the audio deep dive, Smite 2 truly comes alive. It is reassuring to hear the development team's commitment to maintaining what's already good in Smite.
