AFK Today 12/16/2023

What is going on my geeks and gamers? We apologize for the late newsletter this week but we must discuss what’s been going on in the gaming community right now! E3 has officially been canceled as well as The Last of Us Multiplayer. A sad week for gamers but on a high note, Asgard’s Wrath 2 was released, perfect for those searching for a VR action RPG game! That’s all for this week and we’ll catch you in the next AFK Today. Peace!

Many positive reviews are hyping up Asgard’s Wrath 2 to be a new beginning for VR games, with this action based RPG. Although still quite a ways from the visuals of modern gaming, Asgard’s Wrath 2 is definitely a step in the right direction for VR based video game design. We will be closely watching this game as well as future VR games to see just what kind of innovations will be coming out.

E3 Officially Canceled

A sad day for gaming convention fans as E3 has finally come out and said that it will no longer be hosting the largest gaming convention in the future. With the stresses that came with Covid in dealing with large gatherings, it seems E3 was never able to fully recover. We have seen many new gaming events popping up dealing in more specific genres akin to events like Minecone, where only specific types of games are showcased rather than the broad scope of E3. Blizzcon also had a shaky time around the same time as E3, but it appears to have made a full rebound and has started being fully in person once again. Let us know if you are excited for any new and upcoming game conventions or events!

The Last of Us Multiplayer Canceled

Naughty Dog, the developers of The Last of Us, shared on Thursday that they have made the decision to cancel the online multiplayer development of The Last of Us. Unfortunately, it appears that the studio is currently facing resource constraints, making it hard to extend dedicated support to the online component while simultaneously developing their single-player narrative games. Naughty Dog stated: “So, we had two paths in front of us: become a solely live service game studio or continue to focus on single player narrative games that have defined Naughty Dog’s heritage.” In light of the recent announcements, it's clear that the developers are committed to prioritizing the single-player gaming experience.
