AFK Today 3/3/2023

Welcome to March everyone! This week we have news regarding some delays and complications regarding some long awaited sequels including Beyond Good and Evil 2 and Wolf Among Us 2. With stories varying from bad workplace culture to delaying games due to realization of possibly overworking developers to reach deadlines, there’s a good and bad side to delays. We got some good news too! A new Elden Ring DLC has been announced and we are excited to share that with yall!

Beyond Good and Evil 2 Complications

For gamers eagerly awaiting the release of Beyond Good and Evil 2, recent news regarding the development team at Ubisoft Montpellier may be disheartening. As many are aware, the video game industry has come under increased scrutiny regarding workplace culture and employee well-being. Unfortunately, Ubisoft Montpellier is not immune to these issues, as they have recently lost their managing director, Guillaume Carmona, and experienced a high number of staff on burnout/sick leave. This has led to an investigation into Ubisoft by French authorities and delaying the game even further. With over a decade of development, what do you guys think? Is this game worth waiting for or will it inevitably be scrapped?

Telltale's Wolf Among Us 2 Delayed

The first Wolf Among Us game was a great success for Telltale as a studio, and the choice-based genre as a whole. It didn’t last, as Telltale released game after game with very little effort, souring the respect of the community, which led to them temporarily closing their company doors. When the company relaunched with a smaller group of developers, some were interested in seeing where things would go, especially the newly announced Wolf Among Us 2. PCGamer discussed a recent tweet from Telltale Studios here, detailing why they are delaying the Wolf Among Us 2 past its initial 2023 release date. The general consensus is actually pretty good, as they don’t want to release a half-done game or put a work crunch on their developers. Good on them for showing respect to the community and their workers.

Elden Ring DLC Announced

I am sure you have already seen the news if you have been looking for Elden Ring content, but the first DLC has been announced called Shadow of the Erdtree. Not much is known about it yet other than the cryptic picture From Software posted on their social media. Speculating on the potential, it is clearly dealing with the aftermath of the main story, and looks to be dealing heavily with spirits. But who knows if this will be true until we see more. What do you guys think will be the focus of this new DLC?
