AFK Today 7/14/2023

What is happening, gamers? This week on AFK Today, we got spicy news regarding the Microsoft/Activision merger, Baldur’s Gate 3 launch date, and a Team Fortress 2 summer update. Let us know what you think about the Microsoft/Activision merger on our social media as well as which games you’re playing this weekend! See y'all in the next one.

Microsoft/Activision Merger

Earlier this week, the Microsoft/Activision merger case won a big milestone with the FTC taking them one step closer to completion. Although there are a few more hurdles for them to overcome, the merger is looking quite promising for Microsoft. As part of the deal in the UK, Microsoft/Activision has considered giving up some of their control on the cloud gaming business. This has given a more favorable approach to those regulating this purchase with the deal deadline of July 18th. As surprising as it would be for the deal to go through, the current state of Activision/Blizzard could definitely use some guidance and provide the fans a game like no other.

Baldur’s Gate 3 is on the way and set to release early on August 3rd for PC and Mac users. PS5 players will still have to wait until August 31st but this comes as great news for everyone. Will Baldur's Gate 3 top the list for best RPGs this year or will it fall short. Click here for more information and learn more about Baldur’s Gate 3.

Team Fortress 2 Summer Update

The TF2 summer update is live and it brings a ton of highly anticipated content for all its players. With all new maps, taunts, effects and cosmetics, the 16 year old continues to thrive reaching its new highest concurrent player base since launch. It’s amazing how one game can continue its legacy for so long while keeping such a strong player base. Maybe it's a model other developers should consider.
